COMM 303 Weekly Media Blog Week of 2/2/2010

This week the first thing in the media that caught my eye is the new media outlet, “OCNN” which stands for Ocho Cinco News Network. It is run by Chad Ocho Cinco, Wide Receiver for the Cincinnati Bengals of the NFL. Other reporters for “OCNN” are Darnell Dockett, Defensive Tackle for the Arizona Cardinals, Ray Rice, Running Back for the Baltimore Ravens and Chris Cooley, Tight End for the Washington Redskins.

The correspondents for “OCNN” are in Miami, Fla this week for the Super Bowl. Ocho Cinco and his fellow correspondents are giving a unique insight to media day, an NFL requirement that players participating in the Super Bowl attend. By having current NFL players asking the Super Bowl participants questions, it gives a very unique and new feel to media day. Below are a few links talking about “OCNN” and some of their reports.

I think it’s great that Chad Ochocinco is doing this. On the surface it may seem this is another one of his “goofy” antics, but Ochocinco and his crew are going out there trying to get news. It also shows that he could be serious about expanding his horizons once he’s done with professional football. He’s such an accessible personality he should have no problem finding a career once he has retired.

Couldn’t agree more Nick, I think he will make a fantastic ESPN sideline reporter, in-studio analyst, or ESPN personality. He is very personable and knowledgable about the NFL and would be a great media professional

Good for him. He’s probably more likable than 90% of ESPN. He certainly does have a lot to say.

That being said, shouldn’t he have changed his name back to Johnson? I thought he mentioned the fact that if Darelle Revis shut him down in Week 17, he would change his name back? And Revis did more than that… Ochocinco didn’t catch do much of anything in the Wild Card game either.
